Geoffrey Allan Taylor

Geoffred Allan Taylor - photoGeoffrey was born in Stony Stratford and is well known in North Buckinghamshire as a composer, pianist and teacher. He first trained as an artist in Northampton and Portsmouth, and then as a musician at the Guildhall School of Music in London after qualifying as a teacher.

As well as his teaching and performing commitments, much of his time is now spent composing. He has written and conducted works for school music festivals, orchestras, vocal and chamber music groups, and much for the keyboard: Miniatures, Nativity, Miscellany, and Belfry for two keyboards. In December 1999 the Buckingham Choral Society gave the first performance of A Vision: ‘Look well to this day’ which was their special Millenium commission, and in July 2004 they performed the follow-up work, Psalm 121. He has been their pianist since May 1994 and is in regular demand for concerts and festivals, and has performed Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in d minor at one of their concerts. In March 2000 members of the British Sinfonia performed Ground in Chelmsford, and in May 2002 his orchestral work Atoll was performed by the Orchestra of Opera North in York. In 2004 two premieres took place, Pages from Homer, which was a prizewinner in the first British Clavichord Competition at St. Cecilia’s Hall in Edinburgh, and Dreamscape at St. Botolph’s Church in London.

As well as being a keen runner and walker, Geoffrey enjoys the fruitful interaction of the arts and is an enthusiastic organic gardener, winning the Conservative Cup for fruit growing in a local show.

Angel (1987/2004) and Eleanor's Lullaby (1975/2004) were premièred, and Dreamscape was performed, during the 2007 AFNOM Festival in London.
