Ourania Gassiou

Ourania Gassiou - photoOurania was born in Athens and studied the piano with Vinia Tsopela at the Nakas Conservatory, where she graduated in 1999 with the highest distinction. She studied the organ with Nicolas Kynaston at the Athens Concert Hall with a three-year scholarship awarded by the “Friends of Music Society” and later continued her studies with Johannes Geffert in Germany. In 2004 she received a scholarship to study under Nicolas Kynaston at the Royal Academy of Music. She graduated with Distinction and she was awarded the Dip RAM, the most prestigious award for performance .She was also nominated as the Pidem Organ Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music for the academic year 2006-2007. Ourania has participated in various festivals and masterclasses with many distinguished musicians.

She has been awarded Third Prize in the International Organ Competition of St.Maurice, First Prize in the Mediterranean Piano Competition of Andros and Second Prize in the Panhellenic Piano Competition of the “Friends of Jose Carreras Society”. In 2005 she was awarded the Eric Thompson Trust Grant to continue private tuition with Johannes Geffert in Cologne and in 2006 she received the same Grant to study with Susan Landale in London. Ourania has performed in Germany, the UK and in Greece both as a recitalist and with orchestras. She is currently a scholar of the “Alexandros Onassis Public Benefit Foundation”.
