Christian Wilson was head chorister at Westminster Abbey and
it was during this time that he began studying the organ. As
music scholar at Uppingham School he continued studies with
Daniel Phillips and Nicholas Kynaston. The prospect of a position
as Assistant Organist at St George’s Cathedral, Perth,
Western Australia encouraged a ‘gap’ year there,
following which Christian took up the Christopher Tatton Organ
Scholarship at Christ Church, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford his principal
organ teachers were David Sanger and John Wellingham.
Christian recently completed the M Phil in Performance and
Musicology at Oxford submitting ground-breaking work on the
use of organs and alternatim techniques in music for the Lady
Mass in pre-reformation England. This course also supported
advanced practical training allowing Christian to take classes
and participate in master-classes with Marie-Claire Alain, Jon
Laukvik, Naji Hakim, Nicholas Kynaston, Hans Fagius and Harald
Vogel.
In 2006 Christian was awarded the Nicholas Danby Scholarship
for study abroad which continues to support advanced studies
with Jon Laukvik and Ludger Lohmann on the solo postgraduate
course at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. Christian
is extremely grateful to the Nicholas Danby Trust and the Wingate
Foundation for their generous support and advice.

Dominic's Priory on 6th October 2007:
