Helsinki (Finland) - 11th to 18th November 2007
Introduction from Assistant AFNOM Director
Jan Lehtola
“It gives me great pleasure to announce
that the first overseas Annual Festival for New Organ Music, “Organo
Novo”, will be held in St. Paul's Church in Helsinki between
the 11th and 18th November 2007. The programme includes lectures,
master-classes and concerts, during which there will be four world
premiers. The aim of the festival is to enable performances of new,
large-scale organ pieces which would be difficult to programme in
normal concerts. In co-operation with AFNOM in London, the various
items in each “Organo Novo” programme are by composers
from different countries, although the Festival in Helsinki will serve
mainly the needs of Finnish culture, hoping to encourage Finnish composers
to write new music for the organ and to raise an interest in contemporary
music in the minds of the younger generation of organists. Students
from the Sibelius Academy will therefore be performing alongside other
distinguished performers”.
